Former first-round quarterback Cade McNown, who has not thrown a pass in a regular-season game since 2000, was released by the San Francisco 49ers on Saturday in a move that coach Dennis Erickson had hinted at earlier in the week.

The move reduced the number of quarterbacks on the San Francisco roster to four -- Jeff Garcia, Tim Rattay, Brandon Doman and rookie Ken Dorsey -- as the team began a three-day mini-camp.

McNown, 26, was acquired by the 49ers from the Miami Dolphins last summer in a deal for a conditional draft choice. But beset by shoulder problems, he never played in a game for San Francisco. He underwent shoulder surgery and was completing his rehabilitation, but simply did not fit into the team's plans.

This guy doesn't fit into anybodys plans.He is painful to watch.Seems like every ball he throws goes right into the ground.

I stil remember Jaws (Ron JAworski) talking about how he watched all the film and McNown should have been the 2nd QB selected that year.

Never heard him retract it thou.

McNown couldn't play at all. His teammates couldn't stand him and he was just a pain in the ass. One question though. Does he still have that hot girlfriend?

PArt of the promblem is was he was in a loser town, and a loser oragnaization. Chicago is a rathole, he is injured now.

Not arguing with you that those guys suck.And as a matter of fact I think Kordell sucks.And I think Rex Grossman will turn out to be an average QB if that.Yes they have a QB problem,but that is nothing new.I'm not so sure I would classify the Bears as a loser organization.They have never been an offensive minded team and never will.I gotta say though your opinions on Chicago and it fans are exactly that.Just your opinion.
